This year, it’s the second ranked Challengers and the third ranked Hawks in a rematch for all of the marbles. Game time is 8:30pm Saturday night (3/7) at Willamette University in Salem.

CHALLENGERS WIN…MOVE ON TO FACE REGIS IN STATE SEMIFINALS!

Sunset league Player of the Year Scott Morse hit a 3 pointer to start the scoring and Cascade Christian never trailed in a dominating 57-33 win over eighth ranked Rainier in the quarterfinals of the 3A state tournament at Willamette University in Salem on Wednesday afternoon (3/4).

The Challengers led 10-5 after one quarter and 30-17 at halftime as the junior post Colton Cochran was on fire hitting 7 of 11 shots and scored 16 points to nab player of the game honors for Cascade Christian.

Morse led the Challengers with 22 points and 11 boards as second ranked Cascade Christian will faced defending 3A champion and top ranked Regis Friday night (3/6) at 8:15pm in the semifinals of the 2009 state tournament.

This will be a rematch between these two teams, with Regis winning an overtime thriller on the Challengers home court in January. The winner of Friday night’s game will play for the 3A state title on Saturday night (3/7).

5 CHALLENGERS NAMED TO SUNSET ALL-LEAGUE TEAM!

Senior’s Dustin Hutley, Jerrod Hess and Scott Morse were all named to the Sunset first-team All-League team released on Monday (2/23). Junior Ben Joffer was named to the second team and Colton Cochran was named honorable mention.

Morse has also played on four straight league basketball championship teams, winning the 2006/2007 2A state title, and 3rd place at the 3A 2007/2008 state championship.

CHALLENGERS WILL PLAY CHIEFTAINS AGAIN!

CHALLENGERS IMPROVE SUNSET LEAGUE RECORD TO 3-0!

CHALLENGERS TURN BACK THE CHIEFTAINS!

In a battle for first place in the Sunset league Saturday night (1/24) in Medford, the 5-1 Rogue River Chieftains were out to break a streak, and steal the upper hand from 6-0 Cascade Christian.

But the top ranked Challengers were more than ready as they jumped out to a 20 point halftime lead, and led by as many as 36 points before coach Morse pulled his starters less than a minute into the fourth quarter, in a convincing 70-44 win.

Cascade Christian’s captain and floor leader, Scott Morse had 29 points, while the Challenger defense smothered the Rogue River offense.

Junior Ben Joffer had 5 steals to go along with 6 points, while Colton Cochran grabbed 8 rebounds for Cascade Christian.

For the second time in less than a week, the second ranked Challengers will face Rogue River. With a 55-49 win over Bandon Thursday night (2/19) in the #2 vs #3 game, the Chieftains now move on to face Sunset league champion Cascade Christian Saturday night (2/21) at the Pavilion.

The winner of that game will get the #1 seed to the 3A Oregon state playoffs.

CHALLENGERS PULL AWAY FROM ROGUE RIVER!

For the second game in a row, second ranked Cascade Christian led by just one point at halftime. And for the second time, the Challengers used a second half push to propel them to victory.

The 61-52 win over #12 Rogue River Monday night (1/16) not only secured a second straight undefeated Sunset league season, but also provided a milestone for Challenger’s All-State wing Scott Morse.

A starter since his sophomore year, Morse came into the game needing just 21 points to tie all-time Cascade Christian great, Marty Maurer for most points in a career. And Monday night, Morse scored exactly 21 points in his last regular season league game of the year to tie the mark of 1550 points that had stood since the 1997 season.

Morse will have an opportunity to break the record on Saturday night (2/21) at home, as Cascade Christian will play host to the Sunset league’s #2 team (either Rogue River or Bandon) in a seeding game for the state playoffs.

CASCADE CHRISTIAN FACES ROGUE RIVER TONIGHT (2/16)!

The second ranked Challengers play their last regular season game of the season tonight at Rogue River. Cascade Christian has already clinched the Sunset league title and will play a seeding game for the #1 seed to the State playoffs on Saturday night (2/21) at the Pavilion against either Bandon or Rogue River.

CHALLENGERS FACE 4A THIRD RANKED HIDDEN VALLEY TONIGHT (2/14)!

Up until last night, the third ranked Mustangs of Hidden Valley's only loss of the season was their first game at home 3A  #2 Cascade Christian.

Tonight on Valentines Day, Hidden Valley has a chance to even the score as they visit the Pavilion to take on the Challengers. Game time is 7:00pm.

SCHEDULE CHANGE!

The Challengers last league game at Rogue River has been moved up one day to Monday Feb 16 at 7:30pm.

CHALLENGERS WIN BIG, CLINCH LEAGUE TITLE!

It was senior night at the Pavilion Tuesday night (2/10) in Medford, as the 6 Cascade Christian basketball seniors were honored: Jerrod HessDustin Hutley, Scott Morse, Ryan Pech, Kasey Siliga and Taylor Thomas.

And the home crowd would be witness to a dominating performance as the second ranked Challengers beat their guests from Reedsport 78-28.

Scott Morse did just about everything on this night scoring 17 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, dishing out 7 assists and blocking 6 shots in just over a half of play.

In addition, senior Taylor Thomas who was in the starting lineup, was on fire scoring 12 points in helping Cascade Christian to clinch their second consecutive Sunset league title, and 24 straight lea

DOUBLE-TEAM BACKFIRES ON GOLD BEACH!

The Panthers game plan against top ranked Cascade Christian on Tuesday night (1/13) in Gold Beach was simple; don't let the Sunset league’s leading scoring Scott Morse beat them. And so the Panthers put 2 defenders to follow Morse nearly everywhere he went.

Unfortunately for the Panthers however, that left just 3 players to defend the remaining 4 Challengers on the court. It is a strategy that would come back to haunt them as senior post Dustin Hutley made them pay with easy points in the paint, while guard Jerrod Hess scored 14 points, including 5 steals in a 65-32 rout of Gold Beach.

Morse’s other teammates showed the Panthers plenty of firepower as Eli Hoffman was in the starting lineup for the first time scoring 12 points while Wes Litton came off the bench to score 10 points. In addition, the Cascade Christian defense had 17 steals.

Despite the double-team and attempting only 5 shots all night, Morse found other ways to contribute grabbing 8 rebounds, dishing out 7 assists while smothering the Panthers on defense with 3 steals & 3 blocked shots.

With the win, the Challengers moved to 4-0 in league & 11-2 overall & will be back on the Oregon coast on Friday night (1/16) to face Reedsport in another Sunset league contest.

CHALLENGERS BOUNCE GLIDE!

Cascade Christian’s contest against Glide on Friday night (1/9) at the Pavilion in Medford was never really in doubt as the Challengers jumped out to a 24 point lead at the half, and increased it to 40 before Coach Brian Morse took out his starters mid-way through the 3rd quarter.

The dominating 84-54 win was the Top ranked Challengers third without a loss in the Sunset League, and improved their overall season mark to 10-2.

Cascade Christian’s Scott Morse was nearly perfect on this night missing only one shot in 16 total shots; 8 field goals and 8 free throws and scoring 25 points. In addition, Dustin Hutley took command on the inside with 18 points, while Kasey Siliga and Wes Litton came off the bench to score 9 and 8 points respectively.

The Challengers next game will be on the Oregon coast on Tuesday (1/13) as they take on Gold Beach in another league contest.

CHALLENGERS DOMINATE TIGERS!

Cascade Christian's one game letdown last weekend seemed like a distant memory on Tuesday night (1/6) in Bandon as the Challengers jumped out to a 19-4 first quarter lead and completely overwhelmed a stunned Tigers squad in their own gymnasium.

Earlier in the day, Bandon had leaped into the state rankings at #10 after a 9-2 start, and were out to pin the first Sunset League loss on Cascade Christian (the Challengers have not lost a league game since joining the league last year 14-0).

But it wasn't to be on this cool evening on the Southern Oregon coast as All-State wing Scott Morse took over the contest, scoring 30 points including 2 dunks to lead Top ranked Cascade Christian to a 67-45 destruction of the Tigers.

Sharp shooting guard Jerrod Hess contributed 12 points and 7 assists, while Ben Joffer scored 9 points for the Challengers.

With the win, Cascade Christian moves to 2-0 in Sunset League play, and 9-2 overall. The Challengers next game will be Friday night (1/9) at home as they host the Glide Wildcats.

CHALLENGERS TRAVEL TO BANDON ON TUESDAY (1/6)!

Coming off a loss to defending 2A state champion Portland Christian in the final of the New Year's Invitational on Saturday (1/3), the top ranked Cascade Christian will play their second league game on Tuesday night (1/6) on the Oregon Coast against the tenth ranked Tigers.

The Challengers are 1-0 in Sunset League play, and 8-2 overall.

CHALLENGERS LOSE TO ANOTHER STATE CHAMPION!

It was a hot night in the Salem Academy gymnasium Saturday night (1/3) in the championship game of the New Year's Invitation between defending 2A state champion Portland Christian, and 3A #1 Cascade Christian. Only the temperature wasn't what was providing the heat, it was the blistering shooting of the Royals.

Portland Christian jumped out to an early 11 point lead at the end of the first quarter and extended their lead in every quarter until the 4th, before settling for an impressive 61-46 win over the top ranked Challengers.

Throughout the contest, Cascade Christian just could not find their touch, as they lost for the second time this year to an Oregon state champion (the Challengers lost to 4A state champion Marist in December).

Dustin Hutley led Cascade Christian with 15 points, while Scott Morse had 10 points and was named the tournament’s most valuable player.

The Challengers will travel to Bandon on Tuesday (1/6) to take on the Tigers in a Sunset League contest.

CHALLENGERS HOLD ON TO BEAT UMATILLA!

In the opening round of the Crusader New Year’s Invitational in Salem on New Year’s Day, top ranked Cascade Christian looked like they would roll their way to an easy win against #11 Umatilla.

Trailing by 21 at halftime, the Vikings switched from their man-to-man coverage to a zone defense, and it worked as the Challengers offense was stymied in the third quarter settling for 3 points shots, and generally looking tentative.

But after the Vikings pulled within 5 points with just over 2 minutes to play, Cascade Christian figured things out just in time, pulling away for a 60-51 win in the opening round game at Salem Academy.

Scott Morse led the Challengers with a triple-double, 12 points, 15 rebounds and 10 block shots, to go along with 8 assists. In addition, Dustin Hutley continued his excellent play with 15 points, while Colton Cochran had 13 points and Jerrod Hess had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

After having several games reshuffled and a game canceled last week for each team, the 5A Grizzlies and the #1 team in the 3A, Cascade Christian were able to schedule this non-league game before Christmas.

The Challengers have a week off before opening league play on Tuesday (12/30) against Coquille.
