Full Speed Ahead
Well RVSTC Members, we are only a month into 2011 and so much has already happened here at the club. We had a successful Century Tournament, Jr. Team Tennis matches have started, we have updated some of our fitness equipment, we have learned how to play tennis in the dark...ok maybe not in the dark, but you have been so patient with our "dim" situation. We will be "shedding some light" on that issue soon (apparently we have also learned how to use puns). But alas, January is gone and February is moving along quite nicely. This month we would like to highlight our In-Club Tournament, February 18th-20th. Being involved in this tournament is a fantastic way to gain fame among your RVSTC peers. It is well known that winning the In-Club tournament could possibly increase your fortune, add years to your life expectancy, and even help squelch global warming. But best of all, winners get their name on the In-Club plaque located in our hallway for all to see for years to come. Why wouldn't you play!?! Sign-ups are at the front desk with the options of Singles, Doubles, and Mixed Doubles.
The Future Looks Quite Bright
As mentioned earlier, we will be dealing with the dim light (or no light in some cases) situation in the near future. As you can surmise, this investment is not cheap so we appreciate your patience and willingness to work with us as we update in the most efficient and cost-effective method for us all. We want your experience at RVSTC to be nothing but superb so we are dedicated to addressing your concerns as quickly as possible.
Feb-May will be full of USTA matches for both Men's and Women's USTA Adult League. This may mean that Saturday or Sunday courts are more full than you are used to. If you play on weekends, make sure that you are calling ahead to book courts. Remember, you can call up to a week in advance for a court time. If you play in the drop-in on Saturday morning, that group will not be affected by match play and we will continue to reserve those courts weekly for you.
Giving Back - The Jonathan Stark Kids Fund
As some of you may have heard, this year we will be actively supporting the Jonathan Stark Kids Fund. The Jonathan Stark Kids Fund is an organization that strives to expose children of Jackson County to tennis and other recreational activities free of charge. It's goal is to increase community involvement and enjoyment in sporting activities by providing the resources that will make that goal possible. Since it's start in 2005, the Jonathan Stark Kids Fund has been consistently donating to the Rogue Valley community. Contributions have been made to the Medford Parks and Recreation Department, YMCA, and the Kids Fest held here at RVSTC. Thanks in part to the fund, the entire community is able to enjoy beautifully restored courts at Fichner-Mainwaring Park and participate in summer and after-school programs at the local YMCA. We are doing our part by taking one of our largest events, the summer Open Tournament, and making it a fundraising opportunity for the Jonathan Stark Kids Fund. Stay tuned for info on ways you can donate. Whether it be money, products, or volunteering your time, every donation is so important in helping the Jonathan Stark Kids Fund in it's goal of promoting fun in physical activity.
